I'm a carry-on traveler, always have been and always will be. Over the years, I've learned to only bring the essentials and that usually means no more than a couple of pairs of shoes (three max, if they're thin enough!). So, when I was contacted by a team member to try out a pair of Tieks, I did a little research and was intrigued by its flexibility and the material being made of genuine leather.

About Tieks
Tieks are made from 100% premium Italian leather and is designed to stretch and mold to your foot's shape over time. It has thick, non-skid double rubber outsole patches, the heel is cushioned as opposed to having elastic, and, of course, it has ability to fold in half repeatedly. It takes three days and more than 150 steps to make a single pair of Tieks. There are more than 70 prints and colors available. It's evident that there's a lot of thought and care that goes making Tieks.
Style-wise, I like to stick to the classics for versatility, so I chose the matte black. Tieks says, "These leathers are tanned with only the highest grade oils to emphasize the prominent natural grain, while retaining a luxurious, soft feel. The natural surface of full-grain leather burnishes and beautifies over time."

What To Expect Out of the Box
My pair came with a leather cleaning wipe, a reusable nylon tote bag (in Tieks signature turquoise blue), and pouch for your shoes. Very convenient to keep on hand and put inside your purse. Such a thoughtful add-on!
Sizing & Breaking-in Period
Since my feet are a bit sensitive, I reserved ample time to break them in by using a shoe stretcher over a period of a few days. However, some people may be able to wear them immediately with no problem. I'm usually a size 8 or 8.5. When it comes to ballet flats, I want to give myself a little extra room since I have wide, flat feet. I shared this with a Tieks team member who suggested I size up to a 9 (there are no half sizes at this time), and I'm so glad I did!
I immediately noticed the thickness of the bottom of the shoes. Typically, my flats are so thin that I can feel every detail of the ground. I appreciated the extra lift Tieks provided. I also like the shape, it gives a softer look to an outfit.
My Final Thoughts
I love the concept of having a pair of flats that I can fold in half and store in my car or bag. Whether I want to dress up for an event or swap out my heels, the versatility is huge driving factor for me. It's great to know that I have options and can keep these close-by!
