Tokyo is a city of endless possibilities, which can feel a little overwhelming when you’re trying to plan the perfect trip. I’ve learned that the best way to travel is to release the stress of "seeing it all" and instead focus on the experiences that actually bring you joy. This didn't click for me until the every end of my trip!

I’ve rounded up five memorable spots in Tokyo—from peaceful shrines to futuristic museums—that are perfect for your next self-investment journey.

1. The Ultimate Fluffy Pancakes at Micasadeco & Cafe

You can’t visit Tokyo without trying the famous soufflé pancakes. While there are tons of spots to choose from, Micasadeco & Cafe Jingumae had the absolute best texture and flavor.

  • Pro-Tip: This spot has limited seating and long wait times. To avoid the stress, get there at least 30 minutes before they open. There are no reservations! Have a plan B if you're not able to wait in line.

2. A Peaceful Morning at Meiji Jingu Shrine

After breakfast, take a stroll through Meiji Jingu. This Shinto shrine is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a moment of pure zen in the middle of the city.

  • Did you know? There are more shrines in Japan than convenience stores! Meiji Jingu is free to enter and open year-round, making it a budget-friendly way to invest in your peace of mind.

3. Iconic Views from Tokyo Tower

Inspired by the Eiffel Tower and completed in 1953, Tokyo Tower stands at 1,029 feet. It’s a classic for a reason. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mt. Fuji from the observation deck. It’s a beautiful reminder of how big and wonderful the world is when you step out of your comfort zone. If you want to go up, see ticket info here.

4. Izakaya Dining at Kyomachi Koishigure

Shinjuku is bustling, but on the 6th floor of a multi-use business center, you’ll find a hidden escape: Kyomachi Koishigure. It offers an authentic Izakaya-style experience that feels surprisingly quiet and intimate.

  • What to order: The eel rolls, wagyu, and fried chicken were incredible!

  • Traveler’s Note: Restaurant options in Tokyo are endless. I wish I could tell my past self: don’t get stressed out by the choices. Pick one, enjoy it, and know that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

5. Sunset at Shibuya Sky & TeamLab Planets

For the modern side of Tokyo, consider a visit these two iconic spots:

  • Shibuya Sky: It’s touristy, but the views are unmatched. Book two weeks in advance to snag a sunset time slot so you can see the city transition from day to night.

  • TeamLab Planets: This is where you bring out your inner child. It’s a sensory museum with light shows and interactive exhibits (including a room where you're knee-deep in water!). It’s the ultimate way to play and stay present.

Are any of these places on your list already? Let me know! I know these aren't hidden gems, but I feel they would be great experiences for any first timer!
